WBC silver super featherweight champion, Jhonny Gonzalez (58-9, 49KOs), was presented with his new belt by World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman at the weekly WBC press conference, after defeating Japan's Kazuki Hashimoto by TKO on the second round in Morelia this past Saturday night.
Jhonny surprised everyone as he announced that his representatives, Promociones Del Pueblo, have worked out a deal where he'll be back to the ring on September 12th on the MGM Grand undercard, where WBC/WBA welterweight and super welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will face Andre Berto in the Showtime Pay-Per-View main event.
Contrary to rumors, Gonzalez will not be facing IBF champion Jose Pedraza on the card. No opponent has yet been announced for Jhonny. But this means that he's straight back to the gym, with no rest or down time.
He mentioned that he feels so much stronger in this weight category, and solidified that his aim is to challenge WBC champion Takashi Miura as soon as practically possible.
