WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47KOs) expects the rematch with Abner Mares (26-1, 14KOs) to take place on either March 8 or March 15.

The rematch was scheduled for February 15th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and had to be postponed when Mares suffered a rib injury.

They first met last August at the StubHub Center, where Gonzalez shockingly stopped Mares in the first round.

"I only know that Richard (Schaefer) - the CEO of Golden Boy - said it would take place in a month (from the old date). The date of March 15, which is unofficial, was being looked at for the fight. But on Monday Golden Boy is getting us a new date. We are not ruling out either that the fight will be on for March 8 in Las Vegas, on the same day Canelo Alvarez comes back. It may get the event more attention, but we'll be ready for any date," Gonzalez said.
