Jez Wilson has been banned from all sport for two years after failing a drugs test.

The Sheffield-based middleweight has a record of 12-3-1 with seven stoppages.

Wilson was handed the sanction by the UK Anti-Doping Agency after it was revealed that he had tested positive for the diuretic Furosemide in the aftermath of his last fight.

He challenged –– and lost to –– Lewis Taylor (18-2-1, 3 KOs) of Dronfield for the English title at Rotherham’s Magna Centre on November 21 last year.

And after testing positive Wilson told UKAD that he had inadvertently used the drug, but under the principal of Strict Liability a two-year suspension was still slapped on the 36-year-old, who was born in Wolverhampton.

“Athletes must adhere to the principal of ‘Strict Liability’, which means they are responsible for any substances found in their system regardless of whether there was an intention to cheat or not,” UKAD’s Director of Legal, Graham Arthur, said in a statement published on its website.

“This can be challenging for athletes, but it is crucial to their sporting career and their health that they carry out proper research into any supplements they decide to use.

“Failing to do so can have disastrous consequences on their career.”

Wilson’s suspension will run through until December 20, 2017.
