LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Jermain Taylor is again listed as the World Boxing Association's middleweight champion, although that title remains under review.
Taylor had been removed from the WBA's rankings amid questions about his second fight with Bernard Hopkins. Taylor beat Hopkins in July to win the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF championships, then beat him again in December.
The WBA is looking into the legitimacy of Taylor's December title defense. Some procedural concerns have come up, including whether the fight was sanctioned properly.
In the rankings created in late March, Taylor wasn't listed at all, but the most recent rankings - created last Wednesday - have him again as the champion.
Last month, WBA attorney Robert Mack downplayed Taylor's removal, saying the Little Rock native's title was under review, but he hadn't been stripped of his belt. As if to reinforce that point, the WBA has restored Taylor's name on its official rankings.
Mack said Tuesday the review is still pending.
"I'm still in the preliminary stages of the administrative review, but we want to make it clear Jermain Taylor is still the champion," Mack said. "There is no question about his current status. We want to make it clear Taylor has not been removed as champion."
Taylor lost his IBF title when he fought Hopkins a second time instead of facing a mandatory challenger.
Taylor's next fight is against Winky Wright on June 17 in Memphis, Tenn., a fight Taylor had to agree to or risk losing his WBC belt.
