Jason Moloney believes he has enough left to become a titleholder again.

Moloney, who recently signed with Tasman Fighters, will make his debut with his new promoter on Saturday against Herlan Gomez at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Broadbeach, Australia.

Moloney, 27-4 (19 KOs), last fought against Tenshin Nasukawa, when losing a unanimous decision in February. Since then, he has been waiting for a return to the ring, and with Junto Nakatani leaving the bantamweight division, Moloney hopes to re-enter the conversation as one of the best at his weight and put his two-fight losing streak behind him.

“The division is wide open,” Moloney, 34, told BoxingScene. “I don’t think there is any real standout. I don’t think there is anyone in the division I can’t beat."

Moloney of New South Wales, Australia, aims to rebuild in Australia. His last fight in his home country was in 2022. He signed with Top Rank in 2019, along with his brother Andrew, and many of his major bouts happened in North America – including his fight against Naoya Inoue and his world-title win over Vincent Astrolabio. Moloney welcomes fighting at home around friends and family, because he believes it will be a motivating factor.

Prior to the loss to Nasukawa, he dropped his title to Yoshiki Takei via unanimous decision.

“I can feel people are starting to write me off, they think that I am done, but that just gives me more motivation to prove them wrong,” he said. “I know how I feel, and I know how I am performing in the gym. I think I am performing the best I ever have at the moment.”

Gomez, 14-2 (10 KOs), hails from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. Gomez, 26, saw a nine-fight win streak snapped in his past fight, when losing a 10-round unanimous decision to the unbeaten Kalolo Amiri.

“I am looking forward to getting back in there, and hopefully back to those championship fights,” Moloney said. “Everyone with a belt, I believe I can beat them.”
