Olympic gold medal winner James DeGale (1-0, 0KOs) made his pro debut at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, winning an easy four round decision over Vepkhia Tchilaia in a middleweight contest. The scores were 40-36 on all three cards.

The crowd wanted a knockout but DeGale stuck to boxing, switching from southpaw to orthodox and landing crisp right hands in ever round. At times he threw pitter-patter combinations ala Joe Calzaghe.

Also on the card, junior welterweight Frankie Gavin (1-0, 1KOs) made his pro debut, stopping George Kadaria in the fourth and final round of a tough fight. Kadaria tried to test Gavin by throwing a lot punches but also received plenty in return. A clash of heads in the third saw Gavin's nose get busted. Gavin would land uppercuts and bodyshots, wearing Kadaria down as the fight went along. In the fourth, Gavin backed Kadaria into a corner and let his hands go as the ref jumped in to stop the beating.

Welterweight Billy Joe Saunders (1-0, 1KOs) also made his pro debut, stopping Attila Molnar in the second round. Saunders put the hurt on Molnar in the very first and continued to bruise him to the body and land hard lefts to the head. During the second, Saunders began landing at will with both hands as Molnar was taking a bad beating. The ref stopped the fight when Molnar was hit with several unanswered shots.
