Jake Paul, last seen in a ring getting knocked out by Anthony Joshua in December, continues to talk up a potential bout with Francis Ngannou.
Paul, 29 years old and 12-2 (7 KOs), lasted into the sixth round with Joshua before the former heavyweight champion cranked up the pressure and broke Paul’s jaw. It’s an injury that the MVP boss is still recovering from.
The 0-2 Ngannou, meanwhile, is yet to return to boxing after suffering an even more devastating loss to Joshua in 2024. Buoyed by a better-than-expected debut when he lost a controversial 10-round decision to Tyson Fury in October 2023, Ngannou was then matched with Joshua only to be exposed and flattened in two rounds five months later.
There had been speculation that Paul might consider his future in boxing due to the severity of his injury suffered at the fists of Joshua but insists he plans to return to the ring.
“I’m definitely going to keep on fighting,” he told Sky Sports while promoting MVP’s April 5 show topped by Caroline Dubois vs. Terri Harper. “We will see how the jaw continues to heal up. I would say there’s a long list of opponents. I think most recently, Francis Ngannou was talking a lot of smack. I think that’s an easy fight for me.
“I think he’s a terrible boxer. I think, maybe, I’ll go back up to heavyweight and knock him out like Joshua did and render him unconscious. He knows I lasted longer than him against Joshua.
“I think he maybe wouldn’t do the fight because, deep down, he would not want to get embarrassed so that’s a fun one on the list."
