Barclays Center, Brooklyn - The man that received the most praise from Friday night’s PBC on Spike card may have been John David Jackson who took over the helm of training Chris Algieri for his bout with Amir Khan. In one fight and one camp, it certainly looked like Algieri was a more improved fighter and Jackson feels that’s a testament to Algieri and his willingness to learn.

“Chris is a great student of boxing, we didn’tget the victory but he definitely showed he belongs,” Jackson told BoxingScene.com “He showed that he belonged and he is a better fighter under me. Chris wanted to work for it; most guys don’t work for it. Down the stretch, Amir started to fade. He did better than a lot of people gave credit for.”

Algieri lost a unanimous decision to Amir Khan, Jackson feels his fighter did better than he was given credit for and said it wouldn’t be far-fetched to have Algieri winning.

“I had it a draw or 115-113 either way,” the trainer said. “It was a good close fight but I gave it to Chris, I thought he won the fight. In defeat, he still came in better than he was before.”

With Khan’s victory, there is a possibility he’s in line for a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr. Jackson feels all Khan did was run and hold because he didn’t want to lose out on the Mayweatherfight.

“He ran and picked and grabbed,” Jackson said. “My guy fought a totally different fight and tried to fight. Khan ran, grabbed and tried to win that (Mayweather) lottery. My kid showed what he was taught in class, what did Khan do?”
