"Regular" WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (29-3, 22KOs) may have fought the final fight of his career on June 27. Australia's Channel Nine reports that Mundine, 32, may be forced to retire due a serious infection to his eye.
Anthony Mundine is currently recovering in a Sydney hospital, suffering from limited vision. He told reporters that he is not certain of ever being able to fight again. Mundine's left eye became infected over the weekend after he removed his protective contact lens and cleaned it using his mouth. Mundine went to the hospital in pain and initially feared that he would lose his left eye.
"I feared the worst, I feared I could lose the eye," Mundine said. "The doctor said it could be weeks, could be months for the natural healing process to take place. You put yourself in that situation and you think you're going to lose an eye, or a lot of your sight. You'd definitely be scared too, especially if you're 'The Man' Mundine."
