On July 7, Hugo "Cuatito" Ruiz (30-1, 27 KO's) will return to Televisa Deportes with a fourth defense of his interim-WBA bantamweight title against Jean Sampson of Nicaragua. Ruiz's fight against Sampson (12-1, 7 KO's) will be promoted by People Promotions, HG Boxing Boxing Promotions and Sampson Boxing.

Ruiz was not looking for this encounter. The WBA had ordered their "regular" bantamweight champion, Japanese superstar Koki Kameda, to face Ruiz. Kameda has claimed that he recently suffered an injury in training and Ruiz is now forced to stay active until the Japanese champion is fully healed. Ruiz doesn't believe Kameda is really injured, and simply trying to distance himself from the mandatory ruling.

On the Ruiz-Sampson undercard, Arely "Machine Gun" Muciño (15-2, 8 KO's) defends her flyweight crown against Hollie "Hot Stuff" Dunaway (23-10-0 10 KO's), while the unbeaten puncher Juárez Abdiel "Mortar" Ramirez (14-0-1, 13KO's) takes on "Chirizo" Gonzalez (29-5-0 22 KO's) for the WBC's silver title at lightweight.
