The fight is taking place at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Who is Anthony Olascuaga?

Anthony Olascuaga, 9-1 (6 KOs), is a 26-year-old from Los Angeles who will be making the third defense of his WBO flyweight title.

He stepped way up in class very early in his career. At just 5-0, Olascuaga unsuccessfully challenged Kenshiro Teraji, who at the time was the WBC junior flyweight titleholder. Olascuaga lost a ninth-round technical knockout in April 2023. He then moved from 108lbs to 112, took out former titleholder Giemel Magramo in seven rounds and moved on to fight former strawweight title challenger Riku Kano for the vacant WBO belt, triumphing in three rounds.

In his first two defenses, Olascuaga scored a first-round TKO against former junior flyweight titleholder Jonathan Gonzalez last October and then met Hiroto Kyoguchi this past March. Kyoguchi, who had previously held titles at 105 and 108lbs, was the best foe Olascuaga had faced since Teraji. Olascuaga came out victorious via unanimous decision; Kyoguchi has since retired.

Olascuaga is trained by Rudy Hernandez, who also works with Junto Nakatani.

Who is Juan Carlos Camacho Jnr?

Camacho, 19-1 (8 KOs), is the top-ranked contender for Olascuaga’s WBO belt; the 28-year-old from Puerto Rico is rated lower by the other sanctioning bodies, sitting 12th with the WBC and 13th with the WBO.

Camacho’s lone loss came early on, barely one year into his pro career in his seventh fight. He’s since added 13 straight victories, including a wide decision over Carlos Buitrago in April 2023. Buitrago challenged for world titles multiple times during his prime but is now a measuring stick opponent for contenders and prospects.

Camacho also had to come off the canvas twice en route to a split decision over Jayson Mama last October. Mama might best be known for his wide decision loss to Sunny Edwards, then a flyweight titleholder when they met in late 2021.

Most recently, Camacho won a six-round split decision against the 6-6-2 David Humberto Tapia in March.
