Brad Holloway/Matchroom BoxingWhat many are calling the hottest ticket in combat sports this year has proved to be exactly that as tens of thousands of fans swamped the box office to buy their tickets for Katie Taylor’s farewell fight.
After months of negotiations, Croke Park in Ireland was confirmed as the venue for the Irish star’s farewell fight on September 5 against France’s Flora Pili, ticking off the most significant item on Taylor’s bucket list before the 39-year-old calls it a career.
It is believed thousands of fans were left disappointed, unable to beat the rush, with the seats selling out within 30 minutes earlier today.
Taylor, from Bray, had always wanted to top the bill at Croke Park and manager Brian Peters and promoter Eddie Hearn strived to deliver it. Taylor is 25-1 (6 KOs) and opponent Pili is 12-0 (2 KOs).
Tickets went on presale to Matchroom Fight Pass members last Wednesday as well as Lidl Plus users, with the supermarket chain serving as the headline sponsor of the event.
And when they went on general sale today, they were snapped up within 30 minutes.
