Former champion Bernard Hopkins, who has a partnership stake in Golden Boy Promotions, expects a major middleweight collision to take place in 2016.
In the coming months, Golden Boy's two superstars Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and David Lemieux will find themselves in high profile HBO Pay-Per-View fights.
Canelo will challenge Miguel Cotto for the WBC middleweight title on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. One month prior, on October 17th, will see Golovkin stake his WBA/IBO titles in a unification with IBF beltholder David Lemieux.
Hopkins is predicting, obviously, that both of his company fighters will win - but he also anticipates the two stars to face each other in 2016 in a highly anticipated showdown.
"I see Canelo [beating] Cotto. I see Lemiuex upsetting [Golovkin] just like it was done 14-plus years ago in Madison Square Garden, ironically the same place [where I upset Felix Trinidad]. October 17th a middleweight unification is going to go down [like me and Trinidad]. Lemieux upsets GGG," Hopkins said to BoxingScene.com.
"We will see Canelo and Lemieux in a super, super fight in 2016. How great will that be? And that can realitically happen. I don't have control of the ouctomes, but I have control of my opinion."
