Mauricio Herrera was shaking his head after the upcoming opponent was announced for WBA/WBC junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16KOs), who takes on little known Rod Salka (19-3, 3KOs) as the headliner on August 9th from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

In March, Garcia won a close and some felt controversial twelve round majority decision over Herrera (20-4, 7KOs). After the match, Garcia turned down Herrera's request for a rematch and said he was moving forward to a bigger opportunity.

"He doesn't want to see me in the ring. He thought I was an easy fight and he was wrong. Now he's grabbed an easier opponent. When you're a champion, you have to try to fight the best. He could have fought Lamont Peterson but declined. He said he was going to move up in weight and avoided me, but then he remains at super lightweight. I think he will be taking a step backwards [by facing Salka]," Herrera said.

On July 12th, as part of the Saul Alvarez-Erislandy Lara Showtime PPV from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Herrera will face Johan Perez.
