Veteran trainer Rudy Hernandez predicts an easy victory for WBA/IBO/WBC-interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs) - if he steps in the ring with Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs).
Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya has stated in several interviews that Canelo is more than willing to face Golovkin. Both boxers have exclusive contracts with HBO. Canelo will return in May, hoping to get Miguel Cottto. And Golovkin will take on Martin Murray in February.
"As a boxer, I can not put Canelo in the same category, for example, with [Marco Antonio] Barrera and [Erik] Morales. Golovkin knocks him out within three rounds. Golovkin now one of my favorite boxers. He is very intelligent, he has incredible power. Yes, sometimes he skips a beat, but if he concentrated on defense then maybe he would not have been such a [good] puncher. It's either one or the other," Hernandez said.
