BoxingScene.com recently caught up with Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport. The UK based promotional outfit handles the careers of many of the country's top talent.
Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24KOs) recently retired and we asked Hearn if he felt there was any chance that Froch may get the itch to return to the ring.
He feels that a mega-fight against WBA/IBF/IBO/WBC interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs), who just stopped David Lemieux on Saturday, would be the only fight that could possibly lure Froch out of retirement.
Prior to his retirement, Hearn spoke to Froch about numerous fight options, but indicates that a fight with Golovkin was the only option he was willing to entertain.
"He is probably 175 pounds now. I think the problem was he earned so much money in the Groves fight that all the other options were for about half the purse. The only purse that can reach the height of the Groves purse is Golovkin," Hearn told BoxingScene.com.
"There was a lot of conversation before he retired about that fight. That was the only fight that he was going to take. I think he has lost a little bit of desire and drive. It's not the same anymore. Marvin Hagler said it is very difficult to get up for morning runs when you wear silk pajamas."
