Former two division world champion David Haye is stunned with Tyson Fury's decision to bind himself to an immediate rematch with Wladimir Klitschko.
Last month, Fury shocked the boxing world by winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Klitschko to capture the WBO/IBO/IBF/WBA heayweight title belts.
It was revealed prior to the fight that Fury signed a rematch clause. Because Fury was a mandatory challenger, he was under no obligation to sign a rematch clause.
He could have had a lot more leverage by not signing a rematch clause and then calling the shots in victory.
Haye, who fights Mark de Mori on January 16 in his first fight for over three years, believes Fury could care less about his world title belts and simply wanted a guarantee of a second payday.
'Why sign a rematch clause?,' said Haye to The Sun. 'I've never known anyone to do that — unless you're after cash. I think that's what he's in it for. He's not in it for the titles.'
Fury has been breaking headlines with his wild verbal antics as of late. Haye, known for verbal antics of his own, was blown away by some of the comments made by his domestic rival.
'Maybe in 10 years, no one will remember these comments and he'll be in the record books as the guy who beat Wladimir Klitschko. But every man has a wife or a girlfriend. Are they going to be happy with their partner supporting a boxer who thinks like that? Other than column inches, I don't see an upside. I don't get what his angle is," Haye said.
