Despite suffering a crushing two round knockout at the hands of Manny Pacquiao last weekend in Las Vegas, Ricky Hatton maintains that he might have been able to change the tide if the fight would have went a few rounds longer. He seemed be taking the loss better than expected, and said the two round knockout was better for him than being outclassed for several rounds, which may be a reference to his 2007 loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"If we’d have gone a few rounds it could have been different. But he caught me with practically the first punch he threw. I’d rather have been knocked out in two rounds than have somebody that has outclassed me for the full duration. Maybe it could have been different, but that’s boxing. I’ve lost twice and I’ve lost to the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world," Hatton told The Sun.
“It’s not a bad way of looking at it, but I’m devastated. I would not have put my money on that happening.”
In the days leading up to the fight, there were rumors that Hatton was at odds with trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr, and talk that assistant trainer Lee Beard was feuding with Floyd as well. Hatton refused to get specific but told the paper that some things could have been different.
“There was things that could have been different but I’d rather not talk about it.”
