Manchester legend Ricky Hatton views WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 32KOs) and WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs) as two of the most talented fighters in the sport not named Mayweather or Pacquiao.
Hatton does not see any fighter at 160-pounds being capable of defeating Golovkin, and says Triple G might be forced to move up in weight for a showdown with Ward.
Golovkin is looking at a return date in September. Ward is finally coming back to the ring on June 20th against Paul Smith.
The Smith fight takes place at a catch-weight of 172-pounds and nothing has been determined as to whether or not he plans to head back to super middle or move up to light heavyweight. If Ward plans to invade 175, then a potential fight with Golovkin would take a serious setback.
Even if Ward returns to 168, Golovkin does not appear super middleweight bound in 2015.
"There are some great fighters out there apart from Mayweather and Pacquiao - Andre Ward and Gennady Golovkin spring to mind," Hatton told BBC Sports. "But Ward, brilliant as he is, isn't that exciting. Golovkin is exciting, goes for the knockouts, but there's nobody else for him at middleweight and he might have to go up to super-middle to fight Ward, which would definitely capture the public's imagination."
