Namibia’s Harry Simon, one of only two men to win a world title for his home country (the other is WBA lightweight boss Paulus Moses), is set to resume his boxing career.  The former two-time WBO world title holder, at light-middle and middleweight, has been training in London’s Peacock gym, he hopes to sign a deal with Sports Network, and kick-start his career.

Simon, 36, has wins over Winky Wright, Wayne Alexander, and Hacine Cherifi; he has been inactive lately, only fighting once in the past seven years, a win over Stephen Nzuemba in Namibia in 2007.

Harry was involved in a car crash in 2002, he was imprisoned for two-years for culpable homicide, the punishment was handed down in 2007, shortly after the Nzuemba contest.  Simon hopes to put all of this behind him, seeking redemption in the boxing ring; he is also penning a book about his time in prison.

The fighter is currently working with London-based trainer Tundy Ajayi, who also handles Danny Williams.  Simon caught up with BoxingScene.com to reveal the details of his comeback.

“I’m training for a comeback,” he confirmed to BoxngScene.  “I will sit down with Sports Network tomorrow, to see what they have for me.  I really missed boxing.  I have been inactive for a while, I am trying to get my titles back, I am still undefeated, with a good record [24-0 (17)], so I am hoping to have one fight, then fight for a title.”

Simon is adamant that his talent can take him to the top once again; his aim is to have a comeback contest, then look at who is available in and around the world level.  “I have beaten the best in the world,” he stated.  “So what does that mean, that means I must be around the best again.  I want to show the people that I am still around, can still fight, and that I can be a champion again.”

Simon defeated Cherifi in 2001, picking up the WBO middleweight title in the process, he defended against Armand Krajnc in 2002, before losing his title due to the inactivity caused by his car crash.

That title winning desire still burns in Simon.  “I feel mentally strong, fit, physically ready to fight again,” he exclaimed.  “I think I will be much better now, because I have rested, and I am hungrier than I was.  I want to sign a deal with Sports Network, and be active again as a boxer.”
