Former champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero received some bad news on Wednesday, when Floyd Mayweather Jr. was sentenced to 90-days in jail. The boxer was sentenced in a Las Vegas court in connection with a domestic confrontation with the mother of his three children. Mayweather was ordered to begin his sentence on January 6th. Based on the sentence, it appears the boxer's planned return for May 5th is in jeopardy - unless he gets out much earlier than expected. Mayweather has the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on hold for May 5th, and Guerrero has been campaigning hard to secure the Cinco De Mayo showdown.

BoxingScene.com: What is your reaction to Floyd Mayweather’s sentencing?

RG: Right now Floyd and his family are in a difficult situation and I pray that they can put these issues behind them. The holiday season is upon us and nothing is more important than spending time with family and loved ones. Floyd just needs to focus on his family and rectify his problems outside the ring when that time comes. We all make mistakes in life. I’m praying for Floyd and his Family.

BoxingScene.com: With the uncertainty of the Mayweather situation what’s next for The Ghost?

RG: There are plenty of fights out there for me and 2012 is going to be my year. The big boss [Golden Boy CEO] Richard Schaefer promised me a huge year and I’m going to be 100% ready for any challenge he puts in front of me. I'm still hoping the Mayweather fight is still possible. It's my dream fight. 

BoxingScene.com: Who would be your number one choice if you weren't able to fight Mayweather on May 5?

RG: Being that I always want to fight the best, it would be Pacquiao, but I don’t think that will happen. Although Juan Manuel Marquez has turned me down before, I would want to fight him before he retires. I just want to fight the best fighters in the world. There are many options out there for me and my team will make that call. I would love to fight May 5 to represent my Mexican heritage whether it's with Floyd or Marquez or [Erik] Morales.

BoxingScene.com: Closing thoughts?

I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. 2012 is going to be a huge year for my boxing career. Also, I am working on a plan to help all cancer patients through charities and fundraisers. Last but not least I want to thank my family, friends and fans for all the support.
