According to Kalle Sauerland, promoter of George Groves (24-3, 18KOs), they are ready and willing to have a rematch with IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (23-1, 14KOs) right now.
Back in 2011, both of them were rising undefeated prospects. DeGale was a budding Olympic gold medal winner and the favorite to win. Groves shook things up by boxing his way to a very close twelve round majority decision.
DeGale is heading in the direction of facing WBC champion Badou Jack in a fall unification. No date, venue or location has been set for the contest. Groves secured a very big win last month with a solid decision over Martin Murray. That was his third win in a row after losing a split decision to Jack last September in Las Vegas.
Sauerland is confident that most fans are far more eager to witness a DeGale vs. Groves rematch than a showdown between DeGale and Jack.
DeGale would likely jump at the opportunity to avenge the only defeat of his pro career.
"George is always champing at the bit, there's no respite for us there," Sauerland told Sky Sports. "He became a father for the first time and, within hours, sent me a text asking for an update on his next fight!
"We'd do it [with DeGale right] now. People have got more interest in seeing Groves against DeGale than DeGale against Badou Jack, although that is a good fight. But let's not cut corners, the fight people want to see is Groves-DeGale. They don't need any belts on the line. It can be for the 'Banana-man Trophy' or anything.
"It's a real grudge fight that's been building since George beat him a few years ago. They know our telephone numbers and we could find a solution, but it takes two to tango."
