IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green (31-3, 27 KO’s) had his final six-round sparring session with Jason Robinson today before he flies off to Sydney to make the final preparations to face former world champion Antonio Tarver at the Entertainment Centre in New South Wales, Australia.
The 38 year-old makes the fifth defence of his title against the slick former unified light-heavyweight champion and believes that WBC title challenger Robinson, 36, is the ideal opponent to get him in the best shape possible for his showdown with the American southpaw.
“He's excellent sparring and he's very strong and very tough and he fires back as soon as he gets hit, so it's just what I need," Green told thewest.com.au
"We did six rounds today and I've got about 90 to go before the fight.”
The ‘Green Machine,’ who’s career was almost end earlier this year when an abscess found on his appendix was misdiagnosed, sported a bloody nose in the fourth round of sparring with Robinson as both men made it a competitive as possible.
"I've been working very hard since I was ill, so if I do get an injury in training it allows us a couple of days off and I won't lose too much fitness.
"It's important to spar against guys who are tall, rangy and don't like getting hit, which is Tarver, and who can punch,” added Green.
