WBC/WBA/WBO welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) has no shortage of possibilities after winning a twelve round decision over his career rival, Manny Pacquiao, last Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
One dangerous option for Mayweather is WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29KOs), who returns on May 17th against Willie Monroe Jr. at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
Golovkin is willing to come down to 154-pounds, where Mayweather holds the WBC/WBA world titles. He was very impressed by Mayweather's win over Pacquiao.
"Everybody wanted the fight [with him and Pacquiao] for the last five years. I think Floyd’s too smart. This is Floyd’s style; he doesn’t take too many shots. Floyd’s too smart, he’s a great boxer, he’s number one in the world," Golovkin said. "Pacquiao, I think he loses control of the fight. He could not do anything against Floyd. Pacquiao is very good, but it was a very smart fight for Floyd."
"Of course [I would like to face him at 154], it is my dream fight. Obviously, Floyd, he is a great champion, and a little bit different style. Floyd, he’s a smart guy. He does a lot of moving. For my style, a little bit different, I like drama show, I like real fight, like close fight. I want show, big show; big drama show!"
