MIAMI - Former International Boxing Federation light-heavyweight champion Glen Johnson knocked out Fred Moore in five rounds Friday night.

Johnson dropped Moore, of Philadelphia, with a right-left combination to the head late in the fifth-round of their light-heavyweight bout at the Sheraton Mart Hotel. With a dazed Moore laying on the canvas, referee Frank Gentile didnt bother to count and ended the bout at 2:45.

"I took my time and waited for the opportunity," Johnson said.

Before Johnson (46-11-2, 31 KOs) landed with his two-punch combination, he had Moore hurt near the ropes with strong power punching. Bleeding from the nose, Moore (30-7) could not avoid Johnsons attack as he remained pinned on the ropes.

Johnson, of Jamaica and now living in Miami, was the busier fighter from the opening round, scoring with rights to the head and lefts to the body.

Moore enjoyed his best round in the second when he kept Johnson in the middle of the ring and landed with rights to the head.

But Johnson stepped up the attack in the third, scoring repeatedly with body shots. In the fourth, Johnson began to reduce punching range and hurt Moore with rights to the head.

Johnson, 40, won the IBF title with a decision over Clinton Woods in Feb. 2004. He had one successful title defense, a ninth-round knockout of Roy Jones Jr. seven months later but bypassed a mandatory challenge, relinquished to fight Antoenio Tarver at the end of 2004.

Johnson weighed 173 pounds, while Moore weighed 176.
