George Liddard is set to defend his British middleweight title against former European champion Tyler Denny in March.
The 23-year-old Liddard has been riding high since winning the championship with an impressive 10th round finish of Kieron Conway in October. The 13-0 (8 KOs) middleweight from Essex, England, has eased through his opposition of late and it seems as though his promoter, Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, are looking to take the next step up.
Hearn revealed last week that the former WBO junior middleweight boss Liam Smith was offered the chance to face Liddard next but the 37-year-old decided to turn down the bout, citing a lack of time to prepare. Liddard should worry not, as Hearn has found another experienced British middleweight to fill Smith’s boots. A source has confirmed to BoxingScene that former European champion Tyler Denny has now accepted an offer to face Liddard in March.
There were question marks over whether Denny, now 34, would continue in the sport after losing the EBU belt to Hamzah Sheeraz in 2024, but he has since returned with two wins. The first over Elvis Ahorgah in April, followed by a runout victory over Grant Dennis in December. Denny, 21-3-3 (1 KO), will now have the chance to win the British middleweight strap in March.
