Gary Cully has been given a new fight date.
The undefeated lightweight has been out of the ring since June.
Cully, a southpaw, has thrown down the gauntlet to those at domestic level at his weight, but has struggled to secure opponents.
“Belfast is becoming a second home to me because I’ve had all my professional fights up there,” Cully, who will be looking to move to six fights undefeated, said. “It’s a huge city for boxing.
“We wanted to fight for the Celtic or Irish title and offered it to six different fighters. None of them wanted it but at least I’m fighting live on TV and stepping up to six rounds.
“It looks like I’ll have to skip Irish level and fight for a European title.”
And now, after insisting that he is willing to jump up in class to European level, the man from Naas in Ireland has been told when he will return.
He will be back at the Titanic Exhibition Centre, exclusively live on BoxNation, on October 5.
The card will be the second of MTK’s 12-date broadcasting deal with the boxing-only channel and will be topped by David Price’s return.
The former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion has been out of action since March.
Price was knocked out by Alexander Povetkin in a world title eliminator at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office.
He was then meant to return on July 27 at the Premier Suite at the Macron Stadium in Bolton but a back injury suffered during fight week put paid to that.
And now the 35-year-old will come back, on a card that features a whole host of MTK Global-managed fighters, against Cully’s gym-mate Sean Turner.
Steven Ward, who won the vacant BUI Celtic light-heavyweight title with a points win over Stevie Collins Jr. on August 18, will see action again, while Padraig McCrory and Tyrone McCullagh will feature.
Australia’s Nathaniel May will make his MTK debut and Marco McCullough meets Declan Geraghty in a mouthwatering super-featherweight dust-up between an Ulsterman and a Dubliner.
Conrad Cummings will be looking to build on his return to winning ways and there is a new date for Paddy Gallagher as he comes back from a broken jaw.
Meanwhile, Sean McComb and Steven Donnelly, who will return to the ring in a few days’ time, on September 8 at Arena Birmingham, on the Sky Sports-televised undercard of Amir Khan’s next fight against Samuel Vargas, have both been added to the card.
