Trainer Robert Garcia believes Marcos Maidana's huge win over Adrien Broner, from last December, was more than enough to earn him a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Maidana and Amir Khan were the two frontrunners to fight Mayweather on the May date. Mayweather put together an official poll, which allowed the fans to select his next opponent - with Khan and Maidana as the only two selections. Maidana jumped off to a big early lead in the poll, but Khan rallied for support from his huge number of social network followers, and that allowed him to power past Maidana to win the poll.
"Especially with what he did to Broner. Nobody thought he could beat Broner, very few thought he could beat Broner. Not only beat him, but the way he beat him. He pretty much dominated him in every round. He not only put a beating on him, but humiliated him. I think that win in itself deserves the shot at Mayweather. Honestly, that's the way I see it," Garcia said.
