Angel Garcia, father and trainer of WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 15KOs), is not ruling out the possibility of a move to the welterweight division after a few more fights at 140-pounds. He wants his son to dominate the competition at 140, and then a move to 147 will be discussed.
"First we want to dominate the 140-pound division before moving up. Who knows, down the road he might reach 154-pounds. Danny has no trouble making 140, but his body is developing and at some point he'll have to go up...but not yet. I think he can do two more fights [at 140] and then look at the possibility of going up," Angel said to Carlos Gonzalez.
Last Saturday Garcia won the biggest fight of his young career. After losing the first two rounds, Garcia landed a massive left hook to drop Khan in the third. He scored two more knockdowns to get a stoppage victory in the fourth.
Angel was not surprised with the way the fight ended. He expected his son to win by knockout.
"I feel very proud of what Danny did. I knew he could [win by knockout] because Khan has a weak chin," Angel said.
