Former champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-1, 16KOs) is dropping back down in weight, according to his legal adviser Tony Gonzalez. Gamboa tried his hand in the lightweight division last Saturday night, when he challenged WBO champion Terence Crawford. After looking very good in the first four rounds, Gamboa was dropped four times and stopped in the ninth round. Some felt, including Crawford himself, that Gamboa was too small for the weight. When he entered the ring, Crawford rehydrated to a weight of 152-pounds.
"In the fight with Crawford at first everything was fine. But in the end I think the big disadvantage [in size] took a toll [on Gamboa]. The best option now is to go back to 130 pounds," Gonzalez told Carlos Narvaez. "Yuri wanted to test the waters at 135 pounds to see where he stood. But obviously he's stronger at 130. I think he did well in the first four or five rounds but lost the fight. When his senses were affected he abandons the game plan and makes the fight in a street fight."
