PLEASANTON, Calif. – Junior lightweight Gabriel Garcia sent local fans home happy on May 24 with a first-round knockout over Armando Frausto. The time was 1:26.

The event was the first card promoted by Elite Underdog Promotions and took place at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

Garcia made short work of Frausto with a vicious body attack. Garcia, who has a nickname of “Asesino,” which translates to “Assassin,” was just that. Garcia landed a right hand that opened a gash on Frausto’s forehead. The ringside physician halted the bout. 

“I don’t get paid for overtime,” Garcia told BoxingScene after the fight.

The victory improved Garcia to 12-0 (7 KOs), while Frausto has now been stopped for the third time in a row, falling to 10-7-1 (5 KOs). 

In the co-feature, Kyle Lacanlale of San Ramon, California, dropped Rodolfo Molina of Antioch, California, twice en route to a unanimous decision. All three judges scored it 40-34.  Lacanlale, 22, improved to 5-0 (3 KOs), while Molina dropped to 0-2.

Light heavyweight Kumar Prescod of Oakland, California, knocked out Rueben Johnson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the second round. The time of the stoppage was 0:39. Prescod, 18, is a perfect 3-0 (3 KOs) to start his career. Johnson, 34, is now 1-8 (1 KO).

Junior welterweight Willie Shaw of Oakland won a unanimous decision over Salvador Briceno of Guadalajara, Mexico. The scores were 59-55, 58-56 and 60-54. Shaw, 32, is now 15-6 (10 KOs), snapping a three-fight losing streak, while Briceno, 30, falls to 18-11-1 (11 KOs), and has lost four fights in a row. 

Junior middleweight Sergio Gonzalez of Sacramento, California, stopped Tyre Travon Reed of Las Vegas, Nevada, in the first round. Gonzalez, 23, was credited with a knockdown in the opening round, before the referee halted the contest at 1:21. Gonzalez is now 2-0 (2 KOs). Reed is now 0-1.

Junior welterweight Alton Wiggins of Oakland upset local favorite Michael “Mikey The Bull” Portales of Hayward, California, via unanimous decision. The scores were 39-37 across the board. Wiggins, 29, bounced back from his January knockout loss to Nishant Dev and now holds a record of 2-1-1 (0 KOs). Portales fell to 3-4-1 (1 KO).

Braulio Ceja of Concord, California, won a hard-fought split decision over Emond Driver of Indianapolis, Indiana. The scores were 39-36 Ceja, 38-37 Ceja and 38-37 Driver. Ceja landed a left hook on Driver in the fourth round that sent him stumbling to the corner and was ruled a knockdown. That was the deciding blow of the fight. Ceja improved to 5-0 (3 KOs) and Driver is now 1-3 (1 KO).

Lightweight Isaiah Jesse Orosco of Gilroy, California, won a split decision over Juan Molina of Oakland. The scores were 39-37 Orosco (twice) and 39-37 Molina. Orosco, 23, is trained by former titleholder Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero. Orosco is now 3-0 (2 KOs), and Molina fell to 1-3 (1 KO).

Nicholas Saavedra of Modesto, California, stopped Richard Esquibel of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the third round when referee Gerald White stepped in to stop the contest. The time of the stoppage was 2:02. Saavedra, 19, dropped Esquibel with a body shot in Round 2. Saavedra gets the first stoppage of his career, improving to 3-0 (1 KOs), while Esquibel, 34, fell to 1-3 (1 KO).

In the opening bout, lightweight Tiare Womack of San Francisco knocked out Lauren Michaels of Holidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in the first round. The time of the stoppage was 0:52. Womack is now 1-0 (1 KO), while Michaels dropped to 2-5 (0 KOs).
