Lightweight prospect Gabriel Flores (16-0) hopes to continue his winning ways in 2020. He will kick off the year on February 22nd when he faces Matt Conway (17-1) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight will take place on the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury undercard.
The 19-year-old knows that he is still a couple years away from competing for a world championship and at this point in his career he is focused on learning and improving his skill set.
"The goal is just to keep racking up the wins. Each win gets me higher and higher in the rankings and I always want to look better. Every fight we go in we want to look better. We are here to always improve. We don't want to be stagnant at any point of my career," Flores stated.
Flores is very pleased to be fighting on the first pay-per-view card of the year on the boxing calendar and believes it will go down as the biggest event of 2020. Wilder-Fury 1 sold over 300,000 PPV buys in front of a large audience in Los Angeles and the rematch is expected to be a lot bigger.
"In my opinion it will be the biggest card of this year and years to come. It is a huge card and for me to be on it I am very grateful. I am working very hard to put on a great show," Flores stated.
His opponent Conway won his first 17 professional fights before losing a split decision to Francisco Esparza in his last bout in October.
Flores respects all of his opponents but is very confident that he will knock Conway out. He believes that the work he is putting in now will lead to an early night on the 22nd.
"He brings pressure. I just need to be me and stick my jab out there and use my feints and all my boxing ring IQ. I can see myself getting him out out of there because I have been doing really good in training camp and I will be ready for all the rounds," Flores told BoxingScene.com.
