Gabriel Rosado is training hard for his scheduled ring return on June 4th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California - when he faces Mexico's Antonio Gutierrez. If all goes well, in July or August he will face former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Rosado (22-9, 13 KOs) is training in Las Vegas with former world champion Fernando "Feroz" Vargas. With Vargas in the corner, Gabriel broke a five fight losing streak - where he suffered five defeats but one of them became a no-contest when J'Leon Love failed a drug test. Last December, Rosado got a decision win over former world champion Joshua Clottey.
"Yes, the plan is to fight on June 4 and win. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is training with Freddie Roach and he surely needs enough time to lose weight, so that fight could go in August," revealed Rosado to ESPN Deportes.
Rosado believes Chavez's reunion with Roach will make the Mexican star a better fighter.
"[Chavez's] problem is that he puts on too much weight, but I think Roach is going to get the discipline he needs and he will make the weight. When Julio was with Roach we saw best fights. I think he has a lot to prove and that would be a good fight," Rosado said.
Contrary to what Guttierez thinks, Rosado is not overlooking their contest. He is fully focused on this fight, which takes place at the StubHub Center in Carson as part of the Francisco Vargas-Orlando Salido undercard.
"I know Antonio likes to fight. I'm preparing very well. I think my experience to box will help me win the fight. We are preparing very well, and I'm not underestimating anyone because I know that Gutierrez is a good fighter," Rosado said.
Fernando Vargas says Rosado will be very well prepared for Gutierrez.
"They will see that he can box on June 4. Gutierrez is a basic Mexican fighter who comes forward and we are going to show what good boxing ability Gabriel has, the jab, how smart he is, angles. We will have Gutierrez throwing his punches in the air. I'm excited because in this fight will be able to see what Rosado can do," Vargas said.
