LAS VEGAS - Tyson Fury's new cut man Jacob "Stitch" Duran wasn't the least bit surprised that his fighter was aggressive and did damage to Deontay Wilder Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Wilder hit the canvas twice before his corner waived off the fight in the 7th round.
In the lead up to the fight Fury said that he would be aggressive and bring the fight to Fury. He also boasted that he would win by knockout in the 2nd round. While it didn't come that early, the power Fury was packing was evident early on.
"No I wasn't surprised. I was telling people I was only in camp the last two weeks but every time I saw him spar that is the exact plan that he used. SugarHill and Andy Lee did a tremendous job setting up the game plan and Tyson Fury did a tremendous job in keeping it. I was totally impressed," Duran explained after the fight.
Fury also packed on extra weight for the fight which also paid dividends as he pushed Wilder around the ring. He also would put his weight on Wilder several times throughout the 7 rounds which seemed to zap his energy.
"It paid off big time. Look his body isn't going to get him a Mr. America or Mr. UK title or anything like that but that suits him. Just like his relaxation that is him and you can't take anything away from him," Duran stated.
As for an immediate rematch, Duran believes that Fury should fight Joshua first because Wilder needs a long break away from the ring to recover from the punishment he took in the fight.
"I think Joshua at this point only because this type of damage that Wilder received he needs to take a long time off just to recoup. I don't know if he wants to do a rematch in say 6 months. I wouldn't recommend it," Duran told BoxingScene.com.
