Peter Fury, uncle and trainer of top heavyweight contender Tyson Fury, is picking Manny Pacquiao to defeat Amir Khan - if a deal is finalized for the two former champions to face each other in a welterweight contest in early 2016.
Discussions are ongoing between Khan's team and Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank. The fight is going to take place either in February or April. HBO Pay-Per-View will be the distributer if the event comes together.
"I think Amir Khan is a very good boxer and he’s got a good chance, however, Pacquiao is very strong. He’s a strong puncher and if he gets to Khan, then it will be over, and this is the problem," Fury told On The Ropes Boxing Radio .
Fury has a lot of respect for Khan's boxing ability, but not for his ability to take a punch. Two of Khan's defeats have come by stoppage and the British star has been badly hurt or on the floor in several other contests. If there is one thing Pacquiao can do well, he can punch hard. Taking all of that into account, Fury has to side with Pacquiao by stoppage.
"I think when you get fighters on the top world level, it all depends just how good and how composed Khan can stay out of trouble. Anytime he comes to mix it, Khan will end up on the floor. I have to favor Manny Pacquiao in that fight by stoppage," Fury said.
