According to WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch, negotiations are ongoing for a unification showdown with IBF champion Lucian Bute. Several names have been discussed for Froch's next fight and Bute appears to be the frontrunner. The fight would take place in the fall.
"We seem to be making some ground, although there's nothing official, with Lucian Bute," Froch told Setanta Sports News. "It's a fight I'm definitely interested in. I'm the WBC champion and I want to unify the belts.
"He's a tough champion, he's IBF champion and it gives me the chance to unify the divisions. And that's something I want to do."
Like he did with Jermain Taylor, Froch is willing to give Bute the homefield advantage by going to Montreal, Canada for the fight.
"He pulls a big crowd in Montreal," Froch said. "We're talking about 15,000-20,000 fans. But with the Canadian dollar the way it is, if you work it out in comparison, it's probably the same as getting 7,000 in the Nottingham Arena.
"If I have to go to Canada and fight Lucian Bute over there I'll do it. But I'd like to get a fight in Nottingham, for the fans."
