Top strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune believes a potential fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor would be a mismatch of the highest order.
Fortune, a former pro who works with Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Viktor Postol, Denis Lebedev and numerous other Freddie Roach trained fighters, believes McGregor would get demolished with little to no effort from Mayweather. He says Mayweather requires absolutely no training to beat McGregor.
Mayweather, who retired last September, has been hinting about the possibility of a fall comeback. And the one opponent he continuously mentions is McGregor, a UFC featherweight champion with zero pro boxing experience. McGregor has been eating up the attention, advising reporters that Mayweather 'needs him' and not the other way around.
What Fortune would really like to see is McGregor get back in the octogan to avenge his defeat at the hands of Nate Diaz earlier this year. That rematch is a possibility for the fall - the two sides cane reach a financial understanding with the UFC. Most insiders in boxing and MMA are in agreement that a Mayweather-McGregor match is highly unlikely to ever take place.
"C'mon, Floyd wouldn't even need to train for f***ing Conor McGregor. You are out of your f***ing league. You just got wasted by Diaz and now you're baking up against Floyd Mayweather. What gives you the right or the credentials to challenge somebody like Floyd? Are you f***ing kidding me? I'm tired of this f***ing yapper. Dude, shut up!," Fortune told BoxingScene.com.
"Go back and fight Diaz and prove yourself again. But don't go picking one of the best in our sport. He would box the living sh*t out of McGregor. Floyd wouldn't even be satisfied with having that as 50. Floyd would f***ing destroy him in the ring. Look at who else he f***ing bashed."
