As Andrzej Fonfara takes on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. this Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA, his team understands that it is Chavez who is the 'house' fighter with all the advantages going in.
"I think we're going into the fight two rounds down before we even step in the ring," said Fonfara's trainer, Sam Colonna on Wednesday morning. He added - "We're coming to knock this guy out because I'm afraid of a decision."
And Fonfara, who was born in Poland and now resides in Chicago, has been made well aware of this dynamic.
Colonna says - "We've talked about that almost every other day, that we gotta win convincingly or else we're not going to get the score."
His case in point is a fight that took place at the very same venue on the night of September 28th, 2013 that featured Chavez Jr.
"I told him about the (Bryan) Vera fight, the first one, Vera won that fight and he got a draw and that was to just keep Chavez from getting a loss,"opined Colonna, perhaps not remembering that Chavez was actually given that fight via unanimous decision."I've watched the fight three, four times and every time I watched it, I thought he lost by even more."
