The verbal battle continues. During separate interviews with BoxingScene.com's Chris Robinson, both Floyd Mayweather Sr., and Roger Mayweather, were very critical of Adrien Broner in the wake of his twelve round decision loss to Marcos Maidana from last Saturday night at the Alamodome in Las Vegas. Roger and Floyd Sr. co-train the pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr. - who Broner was often compared to.
Broner's trainer, Mike Stafford, fired back at the Mayweather brothers in an interview with FightHype.com.
"It more or less seems like they jealous of the relationship of Adrien and Floyd," Stafford said. "No matter what Floyd Sr. say or Roger say, Floyd and Adrien going to be friends because they done developed a relationship. And even with some of the boxers in their stable, Adrien has developed a friendly relationship with these guys. It's not up to the trainers saying this and saying that; that ain't up to them because they don't know Adrien. They don't know the relationship with Floyd; they have developed a relationship."
"When [Floyd Sr.] was coming up in the amateurs, all I seen was him bringing his son to the fights, you know what I'm saying. We brought many champions to the fights. I don't see that. They riding Floyd's coattails. The father and the uncle riding Floyd's coattails because of Floyd; not because they got great fighters. All they fighters that they got in the gym is from other past gyms. Not one guy have they raised in their gym; not one guy. These guys is coming from other gyms and most of them I done beat before with my guys in the amateurs, so how in the hell do Floyd Mayweather Sr. think they can try to steal my fighters and put 'em with they guys? That's just ridiculous."
During an interview with Proboxinginsider.com, Floyd Sr. reacted to the statements of Stafford.
"That man can't train nobody. I seen him on the God damn screen. He can't train nobody. Now I see why Broner got his ass whooped," Floyd Sr. said
"[The comments about my training are] bullsh*t. I did Chad Dawson, Stevie Forbes, De La Hoya. Floyd is the biggest [to take from the ground up]. So if I could do it with Floyd I could do it with anyone. I did it with Stevie Forbes, I did it with Chad Dawson. He never did nothing [with anyone from] the ground up other than Broner. If he is so damn good, why are guys leaving his ass to come to this gym. Everybody knows what the best gym is in America, the Mayweather Gym. I don't take nobody and I have been built fighters. Broner is the only champ he had. I had more champs than he did."
"[If I trained] Adrien he would be a different fighter. [Broner don't respect Stafford], that's what's going on with the shoulder roll. If the trainer don't want you to do the shoulder roll, then you shouldn't do the shoulder roll. If Broner was listening to him, Broner was in the corner telling him what he was going to do. I don't give a damn what Mike Stafford thinks because evidently he's not the trainer that he thinks he is. If he's training amateurs, keep training them. He's an amateur trainer."
"There are so many things that I would do, that he don't do. I would make Broner jab more. The man don't even more his f***ing head. He got hit every f***ing time the guy threw a loop like this, it hit him in the f***ing head. How in the hell are you training somebody and they don't more their head."
