Floyd Mayweather Jr was on hand at the Watson Family Christmas Classic Charity basketball game Sunday evening as he was one of the many celebrities participating as a player in the event. Before Floyd took to the basketball court, he spoke to the media about various topics. One in particular Floyd was asked about was his seemingly strained relationship with rap artist and now boxing promoter 50 cent.
“Well like I said before, I wish him nothing but the best. My main focus is Mayweather Promotions, The Money Team. My main focus like I said before [is] if you’re on a certain level, the main thing I need to do is just focus on me and focus on what I have to do. I’ve been at the top before I met 50, and I’m going to continue to be at the top” said Mayweather.
50 Cent has been on record with BoxingScene as saying he still considers Floyd a friend though both have been distant and appeared to have a falling out shortly after Floyd was released from jail earlier this year.
When Floyd was pressed if he and 50 Cent were on speaking terms, Mayweather reminded everyone he was not there to talk about someone else but still managed to share some thoughts. His remarks seemed to be in response to comments 50 Cent made on BoxingScene’s official radio show The Boxing Lab where 50 said Mayweather had no income outside of boxing.
“Well the thing is this: I’m not here to talk about another man’s pockets. Or how another man spends his money. Or what another man invests in. Don’t nobody know what I invest in and nobody knows about what I have going on. So like I said before, I’m in a comfortable position. I’m happy. I love life. The media has done a tremendous job with this [Watson Charity] event and I want you guys to continue to support boxing and of course I’m the face of boxing. You live, you learn but the main thing is just being positive and making your inner circle stronger. That’s what it’s about” Mayweather would share.
Mayweather handled himself professionally and was in good spirits as he always loves participating in events that benefit charities and those in need. Mayweather is slated to return to the ring May 4th of 2013 but an opponent has still not been named.
