Mayweather has been in the sport of boxing for 18 years and his illustrious career appears to be coming to an end as Mayweather stated Tuesday afternoon that after the remaining three fights on his Showtime deal are done, so is his career.

Mayweather is undoubtedly the biggest star in boxing and his record breaking fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is proof of that. But as great as Mayweather is considered, there are still those who have their criticisms of the pound for pound king.

While Mayweather isn’t necessarily bothered by the naysayers, he doesn’t think he’ll get full credit until after he hangs up the gloves.

“A lot of times you hear people talk about ‘is Mayweather just protecting his record’.

The only thing I’m doing is when I fight a fighter – and I’m not pointing the fingers at certain fighters – when we fight fighters, we fight who we fight. Like I always say, I don’t think I’m going to get the props I truly deserve until my career is over. That’s what I truly believe” Mayweather would tell the media prior to his workout.

Floyd’s level of dominance and skill is currently regarded second to none and his ultimate goal is to strive to be recognized as the best to ever do it. He won’t go as far as to say he’s not appreciated but he does think the sport will feel his absence when he finally makes his exit.

“I didn’t say I didn’t think I wasn’t appreciated. I don’t really want to say that. I think that I’ll truly be missed when I’m gone away from the sport” said Mayweather.

Mayweather has become accustomed to the criticisms that are constantly aimed at him but he isn’t bothered by them and appreciates his fans who he credits for his stature in the sport today.

“As long as I’m happy at the end of the day. When I go out there and perform and as long as my family is happy and the loved ones that’s around me, because it’s self preservation; I’m first. I love my fans because without them I wouldn’t be where I’m at today”.

Mayweather will have another fight for people to remember him by as he will take on hard hitting Marcos Maidana in less than 2 weeks.
