Lou DiBella, the promoter for IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer, believes that a unification with WBA champion Gervonta Davis will eventually happen.
Last week in Boston, Farmer (27-4-1, 6 KOs) retained his title with a fifth round knockout of James Tennyson.
After the fight, Farmer specifically called for a fight with Davis.
Davis (20-0, 19 KOs) has been out of the ring since April, when he easily knocked out Jesus Cuellar to capture the vacant WBA title.
And the last time Davis was seen, he was grossly overweight - likely around 160-pounds or more.
Adding to that, Davis has been openly feuding with his promoter, Floyd Mayweather and company CEO Leonard Ellerbe.
Davis is likely not going to fight again - until at least the first quarter of 2019.
DiBella doubts the fight will happen next, but he expects the contest to happen down the line.
"Do I realistically think it will happen for his next fight? No. But do I think it will happen down the line? Yeah. But Gervonta also has a promoter, which is Mayweather Promotions. For that fight to happen, it has to be made with Mayweather Promotions. And Leonard and Floyd are friends. I think the fight can happen," DiBella said.
"The last time I saw Gervonta he's gotta lose some weight, but he is a professional and I'm sure when a fight is scheduled he'll do that. But the one question is whether or not he'll fight at 130 again. But if he says he will, then I believe that he will.
"When it happens it's going to be a great fight. In the meantime, he's got a mandatory to worry about with the winner of Jono Carroll and the kid from France. I believe inevitably it will happen, because it will grow into a huge fight."
