Purse bids set for the fight for the vacant EBU heavyweight title between Granit Shala (15-0) and Joe “Juggernaut” Joyce (15-2) this week, but Joyce pulled out like Daniel Dubois had before him.
However, the EBU quickly found a new co-challenger in Ukrainian Oleksandr Zakhozyui (18-0). and the deadline for purse bids is now March 13.
Shala is promoted by Agon Sports in Berlin and is booked to fight April 13 on Agon’s Sportpark event and Shala vs Zakhozyui might well end up as the headliner of that show.
The EBU heavyweight title has been vacant since Agit Kabayel relinquished the title earlier this year after his upset win over Arslanbek Makhmudov December 23.
