Frank Espinoza, manager of junior welterweight contender Carlos Molina, was furious with last Saturday's post-fight comments that were made by former three division world champion Adrien Broner.
Following his unanimous decision victory over Molina at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Broner stated on live television that he "just beat the f*** out of a Mexican." The live crowd, which was filled with thousands of Mexican fans on Cinco De Mayo weekend, showered him with loud boos. Showtime's Jim Gray immediately cut Broner off and told him to show "class and dignity."
Fans from all over the world took offense with the comment. On Wednesday, the World Boxing Council, which is based in Mexico, suspended Broner from their ratings and prohibited the boxer from taking part in a WBC sanctioned fight. The suspension will be lifted if Broner issues an open apology.
"I applaud the World Boxing Council for stepping up and suspending Adrien Broner for that disgusting comment. I think someone had to finally take a stand against this guy. Every time Broner gets a microphone he spews profanity without consequences. He was making outrageous statements about Carlos during the entire promotion and not once did Carlos retaliate. You never hear anything positive from this guy. Every time he talks it's f*** this or f*** that. Boxing has enough problems without needing a guy like this representing the sport with his profanity, racism, sex tapes, assaults, selfies on the toilet bowl, flushing money down the toilet. Enough is enough," Espinoza told BoxingScene.com.
