According to Leonard Ellerbe, adviser to Floyd Mayweather Jr, a fight with Manny Pacquiao will not happen unless Manny agrees to use the United States Anti Doping Agency for random Olympic-style drug testing. Per the rules of the USADA, both fighters would have to take 3 to 5 bloods test and 10 to 12 urine tests over a 10-week period. Pacquiao refuses to subject himself to random testing, which allows the USADA to test him numerous times during his training camp or even on the day of the fight. He will not agree to numerous blood tests during his camp. Pacquiao has already agreed to take three blood tests. One prior to the press conference on January 6, another on February 13 [30-days before the fight] and the third would happen in the dressing room when the fight was over. Pacquiao has yet to agree to take any blood tests within the 30-day window of the fight.
Ellerbe told Bill Simonson on "The Huge Show" that Mayweather did not request these tests. The request was made by Ellerbe and Mayweather adviser Al Haymon. He doesn't see why Pacquiao is refusing agree to the drug testing terms, unless the Filipino fighter has something to hide.
"It wasn't Floyd at all. I have the responsibility to put him in the best situation to be successful," Ellerbe said. "I'm not making any accusations or allegations when it comes to Manny Pacquiao but this is something we're putting in place. We feel the fans and the sport deserve a level playing field."
"They're backed up against the wall. Either they're going to step up to the plate and do this, or my guy's not stepping up into the ring and fighting. With it being the biggest fight in the history of the sport, what better opportunity for both fighters to take a stand?"
"All money ain't good money. When it comes to people's livelihood, there's no price you can put on that. There are other opportunities out there for Floyd beyond Manny Pacquiao. If you have nothing to hide, why not subject yourself to this testing?"
