Super middleweight prospect Edwin Rodriguez (21-0, 14KOs) is going to get pushed at a measured pace, said his promoter Lou DiBella. On Saturday night at New York's Madison Square Garden, Rodriguez opened up an HBO televised doubleheader by winning a solid ten round decision over Donovan George.
DiBella wants to bring Rodriguez back against an opponent who is better than George, but not close to the level of an elite boxer at the weight.
"I would love to bring him back to [The Theater in Madison Square Garden], but the problem is the room is going under construction in the summer and it's not going to be available. [His next opponent] will be a step above Donovan George, but not yet [Lucain] Bute or that level. I think he's too good a prospect to throw him to the wolves right now and he's got champion written all over him," DiBella said.
