Deonte Brown and Grimardi Machuca made weight for their junior lightweight main event bout on Friday night at the Commerce Casino in Commerce, California. The bout headlines Red Owl Boxing’s Boxfest XVI.
Brown, of Morgan City, Louisiana, tipped the scales at 129.8lbs, while Machuca came in at the limit of 130.0lbs.
Brown, 29, enters the fight with a record of 16-0 (11 KOs) and is looking for his second win of 2025. He defeated Dennis Contreras in April via a unanimous decision, snapping a three-year layoff.
Machuca, 17-2 (14 KOs), is a Venezuelan puncher who resides in Camden, New Jersey. Machuca, 34, is looking to snap a two-fight losing streak as he returns for the first time in 2025.
The co-feature saw Saul “The Beast” Sanchez, of North Hollywood, California, come in at 118.6lbs for a bantamweight bout contracted at 119lbs. Edwin Rodriguez came in at 117.0lbs.
Sanchez, 21-4 (12 KOs), is a former title challenger but is returning to the ring after his first career knockout loss a year ago, as he was stopped in the first round by John Riel Casmiero. Sanchez, now 28, lost a split decision to Rodriguez, of Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, in 2019. Rodriguez, 12-9-2 (5 KOs), has lost four of his past five fights.
