2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - In a battle for the USBA welterweight championship, Dusty Harrison (30-0-1, 16KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Thomas 'Cornflake' Lamanna (21-2, 9KOs). The scores were 98-92, 97-93, 97-93.
Cornflake came out working the jab, going to the body and moving forward as Harrison used his legs to move around. Lamanna still had the edge in the second with his jab and combinations. Harrison started to step up his game in the third, throwing more punches to the head and body. Lamanna was still looking good in the bout, but taking a lot more punches. The fourth saw both fighters having their moments, but it was Harrison landing the better, harder punches.
They were trading a lot of punches in the fifth, with both looking for an edge. While Lamanna did the better work in the fifth, it was Harrison who seemed to come alive and rally with good shots in the final minute of the sixth. The seventh round was a fire fight. Lamanna and Harrison were both being a little reckless with their shots, letting everything hang out as the crowd came alive for both men.
The fight was another brawl. Harrison appeared to be a little better and landed the better punches to close it stronger. The ninth was close until Harrison really let his hands go in the final thirty seconds as he blasted away on Lamanna. The left eye of Lamanna was in bad shape as the fight entered the final round. They were really letting their hands go at the start of the tenth. Lamanna was hurt by a hook to the body, bu managed to shake it off. Harrison was really winging his punches on Lamanna, who was firing back but didn't have the power to make a serious dent.
Former NFL player Ray Edwards (12-0-1, 7KOs) outworked Daniel Pasciolla (8-2-1, 0KOs - yes he has no knockouts on his record) to win a one-sided six round unanimous decision in a heavyweight contest. Not much action, mostly fought in a technical style with Pasciolla suffering a cut above his left eye in the final round.
Welterweight prospect Kenneth Sims Jr. (8-0, 2KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over durable journeyman Gilbert Venegas (14-25-5), who just fought two weeks ago. Sims controlled the fight, but every now and then Venegas landed a good shot right on the chin. A;; three judges had it 60-54.
17-year-old lightweight prospect Devin Haney (10-0, 6KOs) stopped Mike Fowler (5-3, 2KOs) in five rounds.
Haney controlled the action in the first round. He hurt Fowler with a big right hand and had him in some trouble during the second. The right hand continued to land in the third and Fowler was getting beat up. During the fifth, Fowler continued to get beat up with flush shots until the referee jumped in to wave it off.
