British heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte is gunning for a rematch with IBF heavyweight king Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17KOs).

This past Friday, Whyte (19-1, 15 KOs) broke down and stopped former sparring partner Ian Lewison (12-3-1, 8 KOs) to capture the vacant British strap at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow in his third fight since Joshua stopped him in the seventh round last December.

To date, Whyte has given Joshua his stiffest challenge and is still the only fighter to actually rattle Joshua with big punches. Whyte was able to buckle Joshua with a big shot in the second round and had him in some trouble for a moment.

Next up for Whyte is a potential showdown with former world title challenger Dereck Chisora, which Whyte views as another step to get him closer to a rematch with Joshua in the near future.

Whyte injured his shoulder in the loss to Joshua and had surgery a few days after the contest.

"One hundred percent we will have a rematch. Two days after the fight I had major shoulder surgery because I was injured pretty bad before the fight but I went through with it because it was a fight I wanted," Whyte told scribe Nick Parkinson.

"I want a couple of building fights and then by mid next year I will be in a great position for that fight. I gave his hardest fight yet and people want to see it. No one knows the situation with the world title belts. As for Tyson Fury we don't know what's going on yet. I'm just sitting here waiting and as long as I keep winning and injury free I'm aiming to fight for a world title next year. Possibly [my next fight] will be Dereck Chisora and then I will be ready for the big guns."

Deepening on his opponent, Joshua will return on November 26th or in early December.
