Diego De la Hoya hopes to close out 2015 with a bang. The 21-year old is slated to face Jesus Ruiz (34-6-5), his most experienced opponent to date, on the latest installment of Golden Boy Fight Club. The WBC youth super bantamweight tile will be at stake and the fight takes place on Friday and will be Golden Boy's debut card on Estrella TV.
De La Hoya, who is a cousin of Oscar, said that the advice he received was simple, "Oscar told me to stay focused and give 100%. That is big part of having success in the sport."
As for where he goes after the Ruiz fight, the super bantamweight prospect said he hopes to land a spot on the Miguel Cotto-Canelo Alvarez undercard that takes place on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
"I am concentrating on the Ruiz fight Friday but after the fight I plan on getting together with my team to discuss our next move. I really want to be on the Canelo undercard," De La Hoya revealed.
De La Hoya feels the mega-fight is closely matched and said that the fans will be real winners.
"It is going to be a great fight. Cotto with the experience and Canelo with the youth. It should be a great fight for the fans. Hopefully I will be a part of it," De La Hoya told BoxingScene.com.
